Maija Hollmén

Prof. Maija Hollmén obtained her Master degree in Science (2004) and a PhD in Medical Biochemistry and Genetics (2010) at the University of Turku in Finland followed by postdoctoral research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) in Switzerland where she studied macrophage-cancer cell crosstalk under the supervision of Prof. Michael Detmar. Currently Maija leads a tumor immunology and immunotherapy lab at the University of Turku that investigates the possibilities to convert cold tumors hot by immunotherapeutic targeting of tumor-associated macrophages. Their lead antibody, targeting a scavenger receptor Clever-1, has entered clinical trials with promising immune switch activities and anti-tumor effects.
