Eva M. Martínez-Cáceres, MD (UV, Spain), specialist in clinical Immunology and PhD (UB, Spain, 1993). Her post-doctoral research at H.Spits’ lab, at The Netherlands Cancer Institute (Amsterdam) was devoted to the mechanisms of human T-cell development. In 1996 she moved back to Barcelona, at CEMCAT, Vall d’Hebron Hospital, where she started her research on the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). In 2001 she moved to GermansTrias Hospital, as consultant immunologist, expanding her scientific interest to other autoimmune diseases, tolerance and diagnostic-immunology.
Her research focuses on the analysis of peripheral tolerance mechanisms and their failure in autoimmune diseases. Her group has developed a tolerogenic cellular product consisting of autologous VItD3-tolerogenic dendritic cells loaded with myelin peptides. A Phase I/IIa clinical trial with these cells is currently ongoing in active MS patients (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02903537). She chaired the European COST Action AFACTT (Action to focus and accelerate cell-based tolerogenic therapies).
Currently, Eva is Head of the Immunology Division and Associate Professor of Immunology at Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, Autonomous University Barcelona (UAB) and Vice-president of the Spanish Society for Immunology.
