Prof. Dr. Carsten Watzl is a scientific director of the Leibniz Research Center for Working Environment and Human Factors (IfADo) at the Technical University Dortmund, Germany. He is the current secretary general of the German Society for Immunology, founder and current speaker of the Study group ‘NK cell Biology’, and is an associate editor for the European Journal of Immunology and Frontiers in Immunology.
During his scientific career he stayed at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany, the National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the NIH in Maryland, USA and at the Institute for Immunology at the University in Heidelberg, Germany.
The function and regulation of human Natural Killer cells are the main research interests of Prof. Watzl. He is investigating different functional aspects of NK cells with a particular focus on signal transduction and integration.
