Professor Cory is a distinguished Australian molecular biologist. She completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne and earned a PhD from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, England.

In 1971, Professor Cory began her research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, in Melbourne. After a decade of studying the immune system, Professor Cory’s lab switched their focus to cancer and the genetic components of various cancers. Professor Cory’s scientific achievements have attracted numerous honours and awards and she has been elected to seven learned scientific academies. She was President of the Australian Academy of Science from 2010 to 2014 and serves on a number of councils and boards in Australia and overseas.

Professor Cory was the Director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research from 1996 until 30 June 2009 and remains an Honorary Distinguished Professorial Fellow in the Institute’s Blood Cells and Blood Cancer Division. Her current research focuses on enhancing apoptotic responses of blood cancers to therapy.
