M.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry and PhD (Immunopathology) from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. Received post-doctoral training in the Molecular Immunology from the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas USA. Currently working as Professor of Immunology in the Department of Immunopathology and Head Department of Translational & Regenerative Medicine at PGIMER Chandigarh, India. Elected member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India). Professor-in-charge of the HIV Diagnosis and Disease Monitoring Center at PGI. His research work focuses on the Immunological aspects of Infectious Diseases mainly HIV, HIV-TB co-infection, HCV and Experimental Leishmaniasis. His team has worked on identification and evaluation of protective efficacy of novel vaccine candidates for kala azar. Besides, his lab has been working to delineate the cellular immune defects in HIV and HCV infections. More recently he has ventured into the fascinating field of stem cells with special interest in role of cancer stem cells in breast carcinoma and regenerative capacity of mesenchymal stem cells in chronic autoimmune inflammatory arthritis. He has 148 scientific publications in the peer-reviewed journals of repute. He received Indo-US Young Investigator’s award in 1991 and Senior Scientist Oration award in Immunology in 2018.
