Ricardo T. Gazzineli, DVM, PhD, is a Senior Investigator at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz and Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The primary focus of his research is the identification of innate cognate receptors and the parasite components that activate these receptors, and to define their role on activation of innate immune cells and pathogenesis of infections with protozoan parasites. Over the years, he has also contributed to the understanding of the role of CD8+ T lymphocytes in host resistance to protozoan infections. In the last 14 years, as the Director of the Brazilian National Institute of Science and Technology for Vaccines, he has also coordinated translational studies to develop vaccines for visceral leishmaniasis, Chagas disease and malaria.
