Lucy has served at various institutes as a research fellow ICIPE, Nairobi, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, Kilifi and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK. She is currently the head of department of Tropical and Infectious diseases at the Institute of Primate Research in Nairobi.

Her research interests are in infectious diseases, and her main focus is on co-infections of malaria and schistosomiasis, understanding their immunology, disease manifestation and diagnosis in endemic populations. Lucy is undertaking research studies that assess the impact of helminth infections on candidate HIV, HPV and malaria vaccines and malaria drug development studies.

She is currently the Secretary General for Kenya society for Immunology (KSI) and a council member of International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS). In this position she supports the society by improving awareness of immunology through organizing workshops and providing scientists with an opportunity to network.
