Professor Jacek M Witkowski for last 15 years heads the Chair and Department of Pathophysiology at the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland. He holds also the Presidency of the Polish Society for Fundamental and Clinical Immunology (2017-2020) and presides over the Committee for Immunology and Ethiology of Human Infections of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2016-2020). His main scientific interests revolve around the mechanisms of aging of human T lymphocytes and other immune cells. He also studies the immune mechanisms of aging-related diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and Alzheimer’s disease.
To date he co-authored 149 scientific papers in renowned scientific journals, including Blood, Scientific Reports, Journal of Immunology etc., mostly on immunological aspects of aging and aging-related diseases, so far cited 3630 times. He has promoted seven PhD in medical sciences and supervised three habilitations. Professor Witkowski is the member of editorial boards of renowned international gerontology and immunology journals, including Biogerontology, Current Gerontology and Geriatric Research, and Central European Journal of Immunology, as well as reviewer for Journal of Immunology, Immunobiology, Scientific Reports, Clinical and Experimental Immunology, and many others. He serves also as expert evaluator of international (European Commission) and national scientific projects.
