Prof. Gunnur Deniz, PhD, graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Sciences, Department of Biology in 1985 and received her M.Sc. degree in Physiology in 1989. She was granted by the Turkish Republic Higher Education Council (YÖK) with a PhD fellowship to study at the Department of Immunology, University of Liverpool and received her PhD degree in immunology in 1994. In 1995, she started to work as a research assistant at the Department of Immunology, Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine (Aziz Sancar DETAE), and in the same year she was appointed as assistant professor, in 1997 as associate professor and in 2002 as professor in immunology. She is the chairman of the Immunology Department at Aziz Sancar DETAE since 2002, and also worked as a Vice President of Aziz Sancar DETAE between 2005 – 2016. Since 2016, she is the director of Aziz Sancar DETAE, since 2006 she is the President of the Turkish Society of Immunology. She has been working on different topics, mainly in immunology of allergy, immunohematology, Behcet disease, primary immunodeficiencies, NK and innate cells. She is also running postgraduate immunology programs for Istanbul University, Institute of Health Sciences.
