His research interests are the innate immunity and inflammation, cancer immunotherapy. He has elucidated molecular mechanisms of innate immune responses and inflammation by identifying key regulators and immune cell subsets. He has discovered new epigenetic mechanisms for regulation of innate inflammatory responses by showing that epigenetic enzymes and lncRNAs regulate the production and function of cytokines and interferons. He has dissected the function and regulation of dendritic cells demonstrating their crucial roles in controlling innate and adaptive immune responses, taking discoveries into clinical trials. As corresponding author, he has published more than 260 original papers in peer-reviewed journals including Cell, Nature, Science, Nature Immunology, Immunity, etc.
