Dr. Xuetao Cao is the Professor and Director of Center for Immunotherapy of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (Beijing, China), President of Nankai University (Tianjin, China), and Founder Director of National Key Laboratory of Medical Immunology at Second Military Medical University (Shanghai, China). He is the Secretary General of Chinese Society for Immunology, Secretary General of Federation of Immunological Society in Asia and Oceania. He served Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences as President during 2011-2017. He was elected as member of US National Academy of Medicine, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, German Academy of Sciences, UK Academy of Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is the Founder Editor of Chinese Journal of Cancer Biotherapy, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Cellular and Molecular Immunology, Senior Editor of Cancer Immunology Research, and serves on the editorial board of journals such as Cell, Immunity, eLife, etc.
His research interests are the innate immunity and inflammation, cancer immunotherapy. He has elucidated molecular mechanisms of innate immune responses and inflammation by identifying key regulators and immune cell subsets. He has discovered new epigenetic mechanisms for regulation of innate inflammatory responses by showing that epigenetic enzymes and lncRNAs regulate the production and function of cytokines and interferons. He has dissected the function and regulation of dendritic cells demonstrating their crucial roles in controlling innate and adaptive immune responses, taking discoveries into clinical trials. As corresponding author, he has published more than 260 original papers in peer-reviewed journals including Cell, Nature, Science, Nature Immunology, Immunity, etc.
